Karate / Jujitsu Classes

Karate is a generic term used to describe several types of martial arts. At the YMCA, we teach the specific art of Jujitsu, the most ancient and all-encompassing of the martial arts. Jujitsu is the ultimate self-defense art and incorporates elements of karate, aikido, judo, boxing, kickboxing, and wrestling. Students develop skills in power and strength, balance, speed and precision. Studying the martial arts helps to build physical fitness, self-confidence, and physical grace. Children and adults learn the YMCA values of honesty, respect, responsibility, caring, and faith while participation in YMCA karate classes. Progress is measured in each class by a series of colored belts. Each level has a specific set of requirements and each student progresses at his or her own rate. All participants are encouraged to cheer each other along during the testing and promotion phase. Each sensei is highly trained, holding high ranking black belt degrees, and certified in the martial arts field of which they teach. Reg- istration forms can be obtained at the Welcome Center/
